"Carbonhound’s automated data entry and seamless onboarding process allowed us to generate our first emissions reports in just two weeks. Their flexible reporting options mean that we can see (and show) the value of our sustainability efforts to our customers sooner, and even help us understand the impact on a carrier/customer level."

Quarterback Transportation provides transportation, logistics and supply chain solutions across North America and Mexico, with a focus on service and relationships with their clients and carriers. They offer brokerage services providing access to a comprehensive selection of carriers that have fleets of varied equipment including reefers, trailers, vans, flatbeds and containers.
Why complete a greenhouse gas emission report?
Quarterback Transportation received requests from their national and international stakeholders about their climate impact as a key part of their customers’ supply chains. As a registered SmartWay® Transport Partner*, they have already shown their commitment to a more sustainable supply chain – the next step is to credibly quantify and report on their impact for their stakeholders.
*SmartWay Transport Partnership is a group of freight shippers, carriers, logistics companies and other stakeholders who work with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to measure, benchmark and improve their logistics operations so they can reduce their environmental footprint. SmartWay is a voluntary public-private program that helps companies advance supply chain sustainability.
Both internal commitments to sustainability and external pressures to quantify their greenhouse gas emissions led Quarterback Transportation to look for a solution that would automate their climate data management so they could confidently work towards reducing their impact.
Why Carbonhound?
Quarterback Transportation’s relevant climate data is well organized, but there is a high volume of data to be processed to measure their carbon footprint. Using a manual process or consultant-led approach would take valuable time and resources, so they wanted to make the process as easy as possible by leveraging software.
Carbonhound’s efficient, automated data ingestion – powered by the Google Cloud Platform combined with a quick onboarding process meant that they could go from never measuring their emissions to a carbon footprint including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions (and over 10,000 lines of historical data) aligned to the GHG Protocol in just two weeks.
How does Quarterback Transportation use Carbonhound to reach their sustainability goals?
The Climate Team at Carbonhound helped Quarterback Transportation identify the relevant data sources to measure their greenhouse gas emissions. This process is called “data mapping”. After that, the data for those material emissions categories (across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions) was collected and uploaded based on their fiscal year.
Once the baseline data was in the app, the team set up automatic monthly bill forwarding using Carbonhound Connect. Going forward, their dashboard will update without them having to do any manual data collection or entry. This gives them an up to date and consistent look at their climate impact.
Now, the team can generate transparent and verifiable data for annual reports, and can spend more time on initiatives to reduce their impact.
Flexible reporting options also allow Quarterback Transportation to differentiate themselves amongst competitors and support their ongoing sales conversations. It also allows them to report on their emissions per carrier to identify parts of their business that have the highest climate impact and opportunity to reduce.
