North American logistics provider, HOC Global Solutions, secures major customer through EcoVadis reporting

“Without a sustainability team of our own, we were feeling confused about how to respond to our customers. With Carbonhound’s support, we’ve been able to meet all of our customer’s requests and are looking forward to further sharing our climate action progress.”

HOC Global Solutions is a family-owned customs broker and freight forwarding logistics provider based in North America with offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Windsor, and New York. When HOC started to receive requests from their largest customers for climate data, they looked for an external solution to help them start this reporting to meet these requests, and secure their bottom line.

Why are companies like HOC getting requests for climate data?

Companies across the globe are feeling the pressure from climate conscious stakeholders and new regulations to quantify their impact on the environment and make an effort to reduce their carbon footprint. This means that companies are turning to their supply chain, especially their most carbon-intensive suppliers, to get this climate data and better understand their Scope 3 emissions.

Being a transportation and logistics company, HOC contributes to their customers’ Scope 3 emissions so these requests for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data are used to help their customers fully understand their carbon footprint.

How does HOC use Carbonhound to respond to these requests?

Without an internal sustainability team, HOC wasn’t sure how to get started to meet these requests and didn’t have the time to worry about them. Between understanding how GHGs are quantified, dealing with new terminology, and learning about new reporting frameworks such as EcoVadis, HOC looked outwards for support and was referred to Carbonhound by one of our partners.

Since working with Carbonhound, HOC has been able to automate their data ingestion to calculate their emissions from electricity usage, natural gas, waste and water, business travel, purchased goods and services, and their largest source of emissions: downstream transportation. Additionally, through Carbonhound’s formatted reporting options, HOC was able to complete the emissions component of the EcoVadis submission to meet a request from a major customer.

How climate reporting is helping HOC secure their bottom line

Now that HOC has their climate data in Carbonhound’s platform, they are able to respond to any customer requests that come their way without a huge lift from their team. By automating their data ingestion, HOC doesn’t have to worry about uploading data monthly, and can continue to focus on their main business functions. Whenever they need to respond to a request, they are able to log into their account, and know that their data is up-to-date and aligned to international standards.

With almost two years of GHG data uploaded into the platform, HOC have been able to successfully complete their EcoVadis assessment to retain existing customers, and use climate reporting as a business differentiator to obtain new customers!
