Partners in Project Green and Carbonhound are excited to announce the launch of the Scope 3 Discovery Program for PPG members!
This is a 12-week program where organizations will receive support and guidance while leveraging data automation software to measure their Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. The program will kick-off in May 2024.
The focus of this program is to help PPG member organizations quantify the business value of their sustainability initiatives, use data to identify key areas of reduction opportunities, and efficiently track their Scope 3 emissions. This will help them maximize their impact and establish themselves as leaders in sustainable business.
Program participants receive an exclusive discount of 20% on Carbonhound’s carbon accounting software platform fees to support the process of credibly tracking their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
To register your company for the program, please complete the intake form.
Greenhouse Gas Accounting 101
A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by an organization.
Greenhouse gas emissions are categorized by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol into Scopes 1, 2 and 3. Scope 1 emissions are directly created by your business (think of the vehicles you own, or a boiler in your office). Scope 2 emissions specifically relate to imported energy – like the electricity you buy to run your computers.
Scope 3 emissions are all of the indirect emissions that occur because of your supply chain, but are not directly owned or controlled by you. This includes the goods you buy from your suppliers and vendors, and the emissions cause by your products when customers use them.
Examples of scope three emissions would be employee commuting, emissions from ingredient makers, business travel in non-company owned/leased vehicles, or flights.
The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol establishes comprehensive global standardized frameworks to measure and manage GHG emissions from private and public sector operations, value chains and mitigation actions.
Scope 3 emissions are all of the indirect emissions that occur because of an organization’s value chain, but are not directly owned or controlled by them. This includes the goods they buy from suppliers and vendors, and the emissions cause by their products when customers use them.
As more companies strive to hit net-zero targets, meet changing regulations and keep up with increasingly sustainably-focused customers, measuring Scope 3 emissions is now a priority – and a challenge. Scope 3 emissions make up around 90% of the average company’s total carbon footprint according to the CDP, so measuring them is critical to truly understanding your organization’s impact and reducing it.
